I am an abstract painter without loyalty to a single style. I shift somewhere between figuration and abstraction. I am devoted to the freedom in art because, through painting, the challenges, discussions, possibilities and experimentation do not end.

I am drawn to abstract painting because for me it is about change, newness, solving compositional problems, the adventure of colour and the immediacy of laying down paint on a surface. I often paint over ‘finished’ canvasses that I am bored with and take pictures of the evolution of a painting. Sometimes this takes me to work on a piece digitally where I test out small changes to an existing painting.

When I start a painting, I have an idea about the colours and what types of shapes I will investigate. Everything that happens after that is in reaction to that first hypothesis.
